8th grade fieldtrip and promotion activities May 7, 2012 This Wednesday 8th grade students will receive an informational letter about promotion activities and the eighth grade fieldtrip. Please review information and return the signed permission slip and cash or money order by May 16. At this time, we cannot accept any checks for the field trip. If you have any concerns, please contact Nancy Agles, Office Manager @ 650-697-4096 ext. 3. Sixth and seventh grade parents, next year our master teaching schedule will slightly change. We will continue to offer the six period days but will also offer a variety of support classes (Reading Power and Math Power) and enrichment electives/explorative classes on the trimester wheel. All students will receive PE once / day. Taylor teachers will be grouped in teams to plan during their preparatory periods. This change will enable our teachers to provide more collaborative student support. This schedule will support our students in all academic subjects as the school prepares for the nationwide Common Core Standards to be implemented in 2014. The elective request sheet will be distributed this week. Please review with you child, sign and return to your student’s core teacher by May 18. This past week your child received a pledge envelope from the Millbrae Education Foundation for our Walk-A-Thon. On May 16 all Taylor PE classes are participating in this event with the goal of 100% participation for all the classes. The MEF Walk‐a‐thon is a one of a kind event in our schools. Every child in every grade participates in this event. It is not distance walk, but rather just a participation activity. The money raised from this walk‐a‐thon will be added to the total amount the MEF has raised this year to fund valuable programs and staff in our schools next year. Students are asked to raise $50 in pledges by asking friends, family, and neighbors to be "sponsors.” Pledge cash or check donation for your participation in the Walk‐a‐Thon and turn in on May 16. Checks should be made payable to MEF, or Millbrae Education Foundation. The MEF funded the Taylor Middle School Counselor this past year. Please consider participating. Also MEF Family night out is this Tuesday, May 8 at certain participating restaurant. Please go to the MEF website to obtain the voucher coupon http://www.millbraeeducationfoundation.org/uploads/MEF_Night_Out_May_2012_Voucher.pdf 6th grade parents were sent home a letter regarding the T-dap immunization (http://www.shotsforschool.org/tdaplaw.html). It is extremely important our school receives a physician’s verification of the t-dap immunization booster as soon as possible, but must be turned in before the first today of your child’s seventh grade year. Seventh and eighth grade students who do not have completed verification forms will not be allowed to start school. Please return forms to the office or at Maze Day. We are looking for volunteers to help finish a campus beautification project in the front of the school. Thanks to the volunteers from Grace Church and the Cozzo/ Kaili family, they did a fabulous job clearing the area. We hope to connect a pipe from the sprinklers to the planting bed, rototill the area and plant a variety of native plants and grasses. Please let me know if you are interested in helping with this project. ( lmartin@mesd.k12.ca.us ).
